Custom Ute Trays: HiLux, Ranger & Made-to-Spec Builds

Our standard trays cover most utes off the shelf. But when the work is unusual — non-standard sizes, specialised gear, mining-spec, ag-spec or fleet-spec — we build to order. Here’s what a custom Duratray build can do.

When you need a custom tray

Non-standard tray dimensions (longer, wider, lower floor).
Reinforced headboards for headboard racks, water tanks or crane mounts.
Flat-floor trays for sheet materials or unusual loads.
Mining-spec builds — dust-sealed, high-mount lighting, water tanks, reinforced load points.
Fleet-spec builds — consistent custom layout across multiple utes.
Crane and tipper mounts — built into the tray from day one.

Custom HiLux trays — the most common request

Toyota HiLux is the most-customised ute on our floor. Common custom HiLux builds:

Headboard reinforced for a water tank + a headboard ladder rack on top.
Flat-floor for carrying long timber or sheet steel.
Mining-spec dust-sealed with high-mount strobes.
Heavier-rated floor for high-payload work.

How custom quoting works

Tell us what you need — vehicle, intended load, environment (coastal, mining, etc.), any specific accessories.
We propose a build — usually a base tray with the custom changes spelled out.
You confirm the spec + price — then we book the build and fitting.
Built, fitted and backed — at our Capalaba workshop, with our 5-year warranty.

What can I customise on a ute tray?

Tray length and width, floor type (standard or flat), dropside height, headboard reinforcement, integrated water tank, crane and tipper mounts, dust sealing, lighting cut-outs, paint/finish.

How much do custom ute trays cost?

Depends on the changes — modest customisation adds a small premium to the base tray; heavy custom work (flat-floor + crane mount + tank) is a bigger uplift. We quote each one individually.

How long does a custom build take?

Longer than a standard build — depends on the changes. We give you a lead-time when we quote.
